With access to the new private servers I've cut my losses and started rebuilding. CoX is probably the last MMO I'll play unless someone comes out with a similar experience bit modernized with improvements. As outdated as CoX was, the MMO marketplace was very lackluster for me, still is. Losing CoX had me look at other games and game genres. The experience was bittersweet loss and it took a while to find some suitable substitutes. Some of the late game changes and additions "broke" the game for me and made me lose interest.

Towards the end I was playing CoX less and less. And since everything is free, swapping servers is just like starting another Alt. The main game is still experiencing the different powerset and AT combos. It was always about getting there, even now with incarnate content. But the truth is they are still there, if I want them.Ĭity of Heroes is not an "end-game game" and there was a time when there was very little, if anything, to do when you got to the top level. So when I did swap and started playing exclusively on one server, I notionally "lost" a bunch of characters I had invested time on including an incarnate. So much so that I did play one significantly more than the other, before changing my mind and swapping. One server I knew, almost right away, wasn't right for me. Since there is no cost involved in any of the private servers I joined several at the same time. I have done this and at the same time I haven't. "What's the experience like restarting on a private server from the one you left?" I'd be happy to answers all questions, for clarity or the like. What's the experience like restarting on a private server from the one you left? Did you bring something with you and if so what? The original servers for City of Heroes now being dead, is it something you have thought about? If so, how?Ī single question about moving from one server to another, if it applies to you of course (from the original servers or a private server to a new private server): What are your feelings surrounding a world you have lost, or that rather died, in City of Heroes?ĭo you have any stories you want to share about losing a City of Heroes world? I just have four open ended questions I'd be grateful to get some responses to - short and long answers all welcome. I'm quite interested in the resurrection of the game through private servers. In the case of City of Heroes, it concerns the original as well as private servers shutting down. Hey folks, I'm researching virtual worlds and losing them forever - be that servers shutting down, losing the world as a result of dying in hardcore mode, simply deleting your savefile without backup and the like.
